Manhole tops

We present a few characteristics which in our opinion are significant in installation and exploitation of the manhole tops.

  • all our products are made of grey cast iron grade GG20 (GJL200)

  • we achieved stability and quietness in use by manufacturing casting with the precision (resulting in flatness of the respective seating area of covers and frames), additionally we placed cushioning insert in the frame (cushioning insert is made of EPDM material which is resistant to temperature changes in a wide range, to dynamic load, to aging and to de-icing substances). Cushioning insert is placed in such a way that the squeezing process of the material from the contact area of cover and frame is effectively limited.

  • very good anti-slip properties and elimination of the suction effect are provided by a specific shape of the relief surface of cast iron covers. The surface of the covers filled with concrete have naturally anti-slip characteristics, similar to the road surface.

  • The frame base area provides the smallest bearing pressure transferred from the frame to the supporting structures of the manhole. Frame base area is 1050mm2, and is much bigger than required by the standard EN 124 minimum 600cm2.

  • better adhesion of the frame base to the binding mortar is provided by applying raised pattern on the frame base surface.

  • fastening elements (screws) are always made of stainless steel.

  • Concrete used in covers corresponds with compressive strength class C35/45 and with exposure class XF4. It is resistant to abrasion and de-icing agents. It retains its properties even in low temperature. Special hooks in the iron cover guarantee its stabile bonding with the concrete.

  • As a standard our products are uncoated. We consider this treatment unnecessary (cast iron has by itself excellent anti-corrosion properties ) and harmful to the environment (any coating is wiped off by the wheels of vehicles in the first few days and it goes to the environment with the rain water). Furthermore, the standard EN 124 does not require painting of manhole tops or gully tops.

For customers who still expect coated products, we can perform the coating operation (black priming paint).

  • As a standard we pack the products for transport on wooden platforms (non-refundable) with appropriate spacers at levels resulting from optimally selected weight and dimensions of the product. The products are tied with the tape and the whole is protected by a heat-shrinkable film with the logo of the foundry.

  • All products are certified by The Office of Certification and Standardization of The Foundry Research Institute in Cracow and marked IO-CERT.
